The dancer is held in a fully extended pose, with the supporting leg forming a long vertical through the body while the raised arm carries that line towards the upper left. The opposite arm opens sideways and the bent leg crosses the figure, so the movement spreads from a narrow central axis into several distinct directions. The pale tutu interrupts those diagonals with a wide horizontal band.
Against the near-black ground, the body is modelled in shifts of blue, violet, pink, red and warmer yellow-orange notes rather than natural skin colour. These changes separate the planes of the back and limbs and make the turn of the body readable. In the original watercolour, sharper contours along the arms and legs meet softer washes in the tutu, where exposed paper keeps the fabric light. The undefined setting leaves the pose itself to determine the image’s space and rhythm.
