Wisteria crosses the figure at several depths, breaking the body into partially hidden and revealed areas rather than framing it from a distance. The densest clusters gather around the head and raised hand, while the long red hair forms a continuous warm passage through the centre, linking areas interrupted by the flowers. With the eyes closed, attention shifts towards these changes in overlap, density and direction.
Repeated violet blossoms occupy much of the field beside the broader shapes of hair, face and arms. Cool lilacs meet copper and deep red, but colour also separates the shallow layers: flowers pass in front of the figure in some areas and recede behind it in others. The body remains clearly legible within this crowded arrangement, while vegetation repeatedly breaks its outline and prevents a simple division between figure and setting.
