The flamingo is seen at such close range that plumage replaces the full outline of the bird. Its lowered head sits among overlapping feathers, while broad arcs of pale pink and white curve around it and stronger carmine-red forms descend through the lower half. The crop removes almost every spatial cue, leaving the body to be read through repeated curves, overlaps and interruptions of black.
The dark field appears between feathers as sharply cut intervals, separating layers that would otherwise merge into one mass. Rose and red dominate, but violet, blue and cool white break the warmer range and distinguish individual planes of plumage. In the original mixed-media work, translucent passages sit beside denser applications of white and red, with marks following the changing direction of the feathers. The closed pose keeps these vivid colours gathered around the lowered head rather than dispersing them across the image.
