Mermaid occupies the brighter right side of the image, with her closed eyes and lifted face positioned beneath long shafts of light descending from the water’s surface. Her body curves down and back through the lower half of the composition, while dark hair streams sideways into the surrounding blue-green field. Movement is carried through these directions rather than through an active gesture.
The pale torso remains the clearest form against the deeper water, but its colours belong to the same cool range of turquoise, blue and green. The tail extends this connection before widening into the large fin on the left. Above, the broken surface of the water forms a compressed boundary, while the descending light opens the space below it and gathers around the head and upper body.
